LITERACY Reading: Congratulations to this student for reaching the second pitstop by reading a total of 1200 minutes!!!! Handwriting: The students have begun to practice a new group of cursive letters...the Hills and Valleys group. The letters N and M belong to this group. Phonics and Grammar: This week, the students continued to work with verbs. They were asked to look at four images and jot down two verbs for each image. Once this was completed, the students drew a picture of themselves and had to describe what they were doing (verbs!) in the drawing. The chilly weather and snow falling down inspired our "Making Words" mystery word: SNOWFLAKE. Students are given a set of scrambled letters and asked to create 2,3,4,5,6 letter words using only the letters provided (ie. A E O F L K N S W). Once the students come up with a few of these words independently they pair up with a peer and try to come up with some more words together. Finally, we come together ...
